Review: Viviscal Gorgeous Growth Densifying Range

I can’t think of anything more frustrating and irritating than a shitty hair day. If your hair looks bad, you immediately feel uncomfortable and out of your element. It is like your safety blanket is damaged and unable to protect you. According to Viviscal, a woman spends nearly $50,000 on hair maintenance during her lifetime, and over 1/3 of women admit they’ve canceled plans because they don’t like how they look, and 1/4 women avoid going on a date when they have a bad hair day. It’s safe to say that having good hair is important to us women.

Viviscal has been researching hair for over 20 years, and have developed the most researched 100% drug-free hair supplement. The new shampoo, conditioner and elixir work with Viviscal’s clinically proven hair growth supplements as a unique dual-action system for thicker, body-boosting volume to attain gorgeous locks. Viviscal’s new Gorgeous Growth Densifying hair care range aims to work from the outside to make your hair look thick and luscious. Each Gorgeous Growth product contains Viviscal’s proprietary complex Ana: Tel™,  which contains clinically tested ingredients from natural sources, including pea sprouts, and nourishes strands with Biotin, Zinc, and Keratin to leave hair looking thicker and fuller. The Shampoo cleanses with a light, creamy lather and rinses out easily. It has a refreshing botanical scent that lasts. The Conditioner has a weightless formula that moisturizes the hair. The Elixir is a lightweight, body-boosting leave-in treatment for thicker looking hair.

My Experience

I’ll be honest, after my first time using Viviscal’s Gorgeous Growth Densifying Range (the shampoo, conditioner, and elixir) I didn’t notice a huge difference in the thickness or denseness of my hair. Since I naturally have thick hair, the first time I used the product trio I only noticed that it gave my hair some added texture. It wasn’t until I gave the shampoo, conditioner, and hair elixir another chance that I began to see more noticeable results. Like I said, regarding thickness, my hair is already fairly thick, so it was hard to notice changes at first. But after the second, third, and fourth time using the products I began to see that not only was my hair given extra texture, but it was also starting to be more voluminous, specifically at the roots. I always struggle with getting enough lift, body, volume, and texture in my hair, especially at the roots where I flip my front layers over to the side. I like to have full-bodied hair, and sometimes products leave my hair looking too soft and flat at the time. These products would benefit those people who are struggling with fine and flat hair. For those of you who already have relatively thick hair and are hesitant to try a densifying range of products, I would still definitely recommend giving the Viviscal’s Gorgeous Growth Densifying Range a try. It doesn’t make hair feel puffy or frizzy, but rather enhances volume and texture. Say bye-bye to bad hair days!

Review of CurlShoppe Products

Throughout the entirety of my curly hair life, I have been used to routine. Routine is important when dealing with all hair types, but with curly hair it is especially important. With curly hair, there is simply no option of just waking up, brushing through some tangles and going out the door. We cannot shower quickly and let it air dry without doing anything. NO— easy maintenance is just not a luxury that people with curly hair have. Unless we are pulling everything back into a hat or a bun, we have things timed out to the exact point such as  when and how to add EACH product (there are always multiple) and the exact moment when you should use the defuser (the appropriate time slot is similar to that of an avocado reaching it’s preferred ripeness after a week and then it becoming too late to consume after only one day of perfection).

Since I have started embracing my curls (after years of straightening or pulling into a tight bun), my routine has been something I have had problems with. Unless I have optimal time to add product, defuse, add more product, and then go over the non-perfect strands with a wand, I have accepted that my hair will just not look so hot. Without this routine, my hair is bland and frizzy.

Enter CurlShoppe! After getting the chance to do a Q and A with owners, Natty and Row about curly hair maintenance and tricks (check it out here) I was excited to use their advice and products in my daily routine. One key tip that they said for those with curly hair is to only wash hair once a week. This  made a huge difference to the over all health and quality of my hair, it is now less dry and takes in product with little fuss. They also suggest buying a wide tooth comb for going through knots. I have always had problems brushing through my hair at the end of the day because it is painful and I also find it rips a lot of hair out—the wide tooth comb was a huge help!

Aside from giving me me their amazing advice, they also let me try out their products to use in my daily routine. Each product that I tried did something new for my hair, which is hard to come buy in generic, drug store brands! Here is how each product worked for me…

Coconut Deep Conditioner

Deep conditioner (sometimes known as a hair mask), is hard to come by for curly hair. I have always found that any deep hair conditioner that I’ve used is meant for medium hair as it weighs down my curls once they are dry! After using this once a week my hair stays soft long after use but still feels light and bouncy!

Leave-In Conditioner

Leave in conditioner has always been a big deal to me. Curly hair nix leave in conditioner is frizzy and often body-less. I have tried EVERYTHING. From leave-in conditioners made for horse manes, normal hair, curly hair to just putting regular conditioner in my hair and leaving it in (this has always been my best option but creates a ton of build up). This product has been by far my favourite product in their collection and possibly ever in my experience of wearing curly hair! Not only is it refreshing but it brings life into my hair, which so many products lack as they weigh the curls down. This is a must have that I will continue to use and recommend!

Hold Jelly

I think that this product made the biggest difference to my over all hair health over the month that I used it. This is because I used this to define my curls instead of adding extra heat from defusing and using a wand! It gave my curls that extra bounce and spiral that I often have problems achieving when just letting my hair dry on its own.

Coconut Water Refresher

I love this product! I have never used anything like this before and now I will never stop! If I am not resetting my hair in the morning or just need some oomph at the end of the day, a few sprays of this and  my curls have life again. It also smells amazing (with added rosemary) and I get many compliments on how fresh I smell when I’m wearing this!

Without these products and without any routine (left) you can see my hair lacks anything substantial. It is limp and tired. On the right is freshly washed and set using all CurlShoppe products! I am so surprised by the body my hair has achieved without any heat or manipulation. These products have definitely brought my curls to their all time best. One of my favourite things about trying these  out is the time I have saved working on my hair routine because my curls require no fuss once the products are applied. I can honestly say that using these have been a life saver during the busy month that I’ve had! I recommend to everyone with curls!

Product Review: Mèreadesso

Wanting perfect skin is one thing, but searching for perfect skincare products in a world with so many sending you hundreds of mixed messages can not only be difficult, but it can also be downright discouraging. As someone who has spent most of my life in search of products that can properly take care of my skin, I understand that the struggle is way too real.

Now that I am in my twenties, I am finally starting to learn more about my skin and what it’s like. But skincare has become so confusing and extravagant. With cleansers, toners, serums, creams, oils, milks, and moisturizers, it’s hard to know what you need. It makes finding what works for you a nightmare you can’t escape. At this rate, by the time you do find your perfect skincare, you’ll need a different one because you’ll have aged 20 years.

Luckily for me, I was given the chance to try a new line of skincare known as Mèreadesso. Mèreadesso was created by Linda Stephenson, a chemist, botanist, and microbiologist, who was formerly a senior product developer for Estée Lauder. When Linda became a mom, she truly understood what it means to have no time to herself, so she decided to create a product that would do multiple things at once (i.e. day/night/eye cream, primer, toner). Mèreadesso is also the only Canadian line carried by Nordstrom’s beauty department.

Over the course of a couple of weeks, I tried out some Mèreadesso products to see what this new line had to offer.

Face and Neck Cleanser

At first, I was a little caught off guard and skeptical about using the microfiber cloth with the cleanser. This cleanser reminded me more of a cleansing milk. Its non-foamy formula acts as a cleanser, mask, toner, and eye makeup remover. Initially, I questioned whether or not it actually cleaned my skin, because in the past I have always used foamy products that lather on my skin. But after the first night of using the cleanser, I was impressed. My makeup was completely removed and my face felt clean and smooth; my skin looked and felt better than I expected.

Note: I was given the small travel sachet size of the face and neck cleanser to try, along with a mini travel sized microfibre cloth, but you can purchase this cleanser and cloth in a full-size 4oz bottle as well.

All-in-One Moisturizer

I suffer from having fairly dry and sensitive skin, so proper moisturizing is important to me. What I loved most about this moisturizer is how it made my skin look. The all-in-one moisturizer claims to be a single step product that replaces day cream, night cream, eye cream, serum, and primer. It is said to decrease redness and tighten and tone the skin while reducing the look of fine lines and wrinkles. Once again, I was skeptical about the performance of the moisturizer, but once again I was pleasantly surprised. Not only was my skin well hydrated and moisturized, but it also really did seem more toned, tightened, and even. As far as moisturizers go, this one works well for me.

Tinted Lip Treats

As someone who is constantly applying lip product on my lips to keep them hydrated and pretty while I’m on the go and at work, I was very excited and impressed by these lip tints. I feel that a lot of the time tinted chapsticks are never really tinted, but that is not the case with these lip treats. The tinted lip treats did exactly what they promised. They provided long-term moisturization with the addition of buildable colour, and without the waxy feeling of chapstick. I’ve been wearing the light pink one religiously since I got it. They are low-key and natural looking so they are perfect for an added touch of colour and moisture to your everyday makeup look. I also tried them as lipstick primers and I was not disappointed. Long story short, I loved the tinted lip treats.

Beautiful Body Balm

Body moisturizing is just as important as face moisturizing. Even though it is kind of a pain at times, your skin will seriously thank you. That being said, I’m usually pretty picky when it comes to body moisturizers because I am not a fan of scented or greasy formulas. What I loved about the Mèreadesso body balm was its ability to make my skin look and feel smooth and toned without being greasy. I also loved its versatility as a body, foot, and hand lotion. It really did the trick in all three areas. Plus, according to Mèreadesso, the body balm helps break down cellulite and minimize the appearance of scars, stretch marks, and water retention. My only complaint is that it felt like it took long to fully rub into my skin. It moves around and leaves white cream lines until it is fully rubbed in, kind of like the old sunscreen from the 90’s used to. But other than that, I thought it was great.

Final Thoughts

As I mentioned, I suffer from having fairly dry, sensitive skin that is also prone to breakouts, so finding a good cleanser and moisturizer that works for me is super important. Overall, I really liked the Mèreadesso cleanser and moisturizer. I was really impressed with the results and how smooth and moisturized it made my skin. The system didn’t dry out my skin at all or cause breakouts. I also really like how the skincare system eliminates a lot of steps such as toner and serum — it made getting ready for bed that much quicker.

My biggest criticisms are that there were times that I wished there was a deep cleaning part to the routine. Maybe a mask or something to go along with it. I know the line is made to eliminate steps, but I feel like a cleanser just can’t clean thoroughly enough on its own. Sometimes you need a deep clean after a long week. I also wasn’t crazy about using a reusable cleansing cloth to wipe away my makeup and buff my skin. Even though the cloth is washable, it seems a little unhygienic and inconvenient for me.

To conclude on a positive note, I love the mini travel sachets. I think more companies that make mini travel packs should try the resealable packaging Mèreadesso uses. I also love the lip treats and the all-in-one moisturizer. The moisturizer is non-greasy, and probably the best part of the entire Mèreadesso line. I would definitely recommend this line to people who are struggling to find a skin care system that works for them!
