One Month, One Style: Fringe

Although Coachella, the heart of “festival season” is already over, there are many other music festivals upon us, like Governors Ball in NY, Glastonbury in Pilton – UK or Osheaga in Montreal. There is no denying that these festivals are shaping the face of the fashion trends, therefore we decided that the month of May will be all dedicated to the bohemian look.

There are some elements that reflect the ultimate festival look. Think lace, crochet, flower prints and fringe. One of the major trend this season is the playful fringe, that added a lot of movement and fun vibe to any garment or accessories.

Music festivals are no longer the only place to channel this bohemian free-spirit look. Here are several ways to incorporate fringe into your daily wardrobe:

Since handbags can speak much about your personality, without being too risky, it can be the first step in building your relationship with this flirty accessory. For S/S ’17, it’s clear to that designers had the festival season on their minds, by showing a collection that perfectly capturing the boho western vibe. Rodarte features a cream leather fringe jacket on his collection, as a modern update to the cowgirl sexy look, or Roberto Cavalli’s with a blue suede leather with fringe details all over it,as part of his hippy ’70s collection. For a casual day look, opt for fringe crop jacket with a skinny jeans, or add a pair of cool sneakers, for an unexpected combination.

One month, One Style – Bras Out

Its finally starting to feel like spring and we are more then ready to refresh our wardrobe for the warmer season ahead. Now is the time to say goodbye to all the heavy layers and be prepared to reveal some great amount of skin. Or, in other words, sun out, bras out.

The old days when you had to hide your bra from peeking out from your shirt is over. One of the seasonal highlight this spring summer included bringing out our intimate garments into the spotlight. Surprisingly there are several ways to wear the bra as part of your outfit without feeling too out there. It all depends on how you wear it. It is quite challenging to draw the line between the fashionable and the jarring. To help you find the right balance, here are five cool options:

Over Your Shirt

If you are still not ready to wear undergarment on its own, there is another way to rock this bold trend. Bralettes and bras, which have been seen everywhere lately, can be worn on top of your favourite t-shirt or, on colder days, on top of a light weight turtleneck. For a fashion forward statement, pair it with a strong-shouldered blouse. This is also a great way to show off your new bra in public without feeling that you went too far with this fashion forward trendy piece.

With a transparent shirt

The sheer trend is still going strong this season, so here is your chance to combine between these two hot trends together and create a daring statement. There is no doubt that this trend is undeniably sexy and therefore we suggest to reserve it for off-duty hours. To make things more interesting and to create a bold statement, simply choose a colourful bra underneath any delicately transparent shirt.

The power suit

One of the unforgettable moments of the ’90s fashion is when Madonna showed off her pinstripe suit with the iconic cone bra in her Blond Ambition tour. Well, nowadays this look is no longer guarded only for the stage or for the runway. It has been seen on the streets among fashion bloggers and celebs. alike. We all agree that a power suit creates a strong and powerful appearance, so to soften up the sharp look, a full coverage bra that peekaboos underneath is the perfect solution. We suggest to pair it with a waist-high trousers and a fitted blazer or with a silky suit for a feminine appeal.

Just a hint

Bralettes can be visibly hidden under a low cut blouse, a buttoned-down shirt, or with a deep v neck sweater. Every kind of bralette is welcome here, from lacy bras to satin, corset or even frilly patterned ones as long as you don’t expose too much skin. Otherwise you are taking the  risk of looking inappropriate (too cheap). To make the look daytime acceptable, keep the rest of the styling minimal.

Sporty spice

Exploring the current street style leads us to one conclusion: the ’90s trend is as relevant as ever. The nostalgic references taken from the fashion icons of the ’90s like Spice Girls, Gwen Stefani, or TLC are proving that the sports bra is having a moment and that it’s a must have item to embrace the urban sporty look. The athletic bra is definitely less boudoir and therefore you should treat it as you would a crop top. To complete the effortless look, simply pair it with sweatpants and accessorize with cool sneakers, a statement clutch, or even with an oversized kimono in order to give your outfit a fashion-forward vibe.

One Month, One Style: Graphic T-shirts

Graphic t-shirts have recently become a must-have piece in every fashionista’s closet — from classic vintage logos to quirky slogan tees and even political ones, which are relevant now more than ever. A t-shirt is not just a t-shirt anymore: Beside the fact that it’s a strong marketing tool, a t-shirt can deliver a message, cultural, social or political statements. It has no rules.

We encourage you to speak out  and inspire others to make a change with your style using a t-shirt as a platform to spotlight an important issue, because no other item is as attention-grabbing than a tee with a bold statement. A brief look on the ready to wear 2017 collections show that the slogan t-shirt is on the radars of some of the biggest names in the industry. Fashion designers want to have a say and this is the ultimate way to do it. For instance, in Dior spring 2017 RTW show, models walked down the runway in t-shirts that read “We Should All Be Feminists.” The street style scene found its way to protest against Donald Trump by wearing t-shirts with the popular phrase, “Not My President” splashed across the front.

Here are five ways to wear the boldest trend in the spring.

If I were a boy

A graphic t-shirt paired with boyfriend jeans is the ultimate weekend outfit. But with a little help from the accessories department or from your boyfriend’s closet, you can create a fresh look taken straight out from the boys’ arsenal. Allow yourself to choose a looser-fit bottom and opt for a boyish tailored blazer that will refine the look. Finish off with cool accessories like combat boots, sneakers, or brim felt hat.

Punk rock

The grungy vibe of the 90’s was not only about flannel shirts and indie hipster attitudes. It also reflected the rise of the coolest rock band like Pearl Jam and Nirvana. Rock band t-shirts are everywhere from on Hollywood stars to It- girls, so this is your chance to give it a try. If you wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll in a flirty way, here are some tips to do it with style. You can soften it with a pleated or tulle skirt, which will give it a girly sweet vibe. A tutu skirt will add a very different texture to the cool tee. Feel free to mix up layers. For example, a loose band tee, a flirty skirt, and masculine boots.

Layer like a pro

Luckily there is no need to neglect your favourite t-shirt just because it is too cold outside. There are some layering tricks that will bring your look to the next level and also keep you warm. Have you ever thought of layering your tee over a turtleneck? Layering like a pro doesn’t have to be complicated, simply tuck in your tee with a turtleneck into a high-waist denim or baggy boyfriend jeans. It will give a new life to your shirt and refresh your outfit. You can also add an oversize denim jacket for a slouchy effect.

The modern princes

While maxi ball skirt is one of those pieces that seem like they were taken from a fairy tale world, a t-shirt is the most basic item in your closet, which makes the combination incredibly modern. Make sure to choose a fitted graphic T-shirt and tuck it in the skirt. Or chop off the bottom to create a knot tied crop top. This look is all about adding drama to your night-out outfit without looking like you try too hard. You can spice up the look by choosing a bold slogan tee or a vintage one.

Back to business

For a head turning attire, you can dress up your graphic tee with a well tailored suit in a single toned colour. To challenge the bounds of style a little bit more, neglect neutral shades and choose a suit in a bold colour instead. Opt for a white or black tee to break up the head to toe daring colour suit and add a statement necklace for a touch of femininity and sophistication.

One Month One Style: Pure Sheer

Get ready to show off a hint of skin as this season — as was Spring 2016 — is all about sheer. On the runway, see-through fabrics ranged from the mild to daring. Givenchy, Dior, Alexander McQueen, Alexander Wang, and others introduced their interpretations of how to play with transparency and peekaboo cuts, and all of them have different ways to inject the trend into our lives.

The good news is that the holiday party season offers a great excuse to play with feminine appearances and to reveal a little skin. Therefore, we chose to feature sheer for the month of December. Sheer details can add sweetness and sexuality to your appearance — it all depends on how you wear it. Ahead, we break down how to incorporate the sheer trend during the festive season.

When in Doubt, Wear Black

Embellished sheer can give your party outfit an instant upgrade, whether it is a dress, sleeves on a shirt, or a skirt. In order to increase the dramatic effect, consider wearing black from head to toe. Keeping your layers monochrome is definitely a great way to turn heads while playing it safe. Not only is it incredibly elongating, the sheer will bring your sex appeal to a new level. Evoke you flirty side by wearing a mid-length, black skirt with sheer panel details, or choose the romantic approach with a floor length dress and some flashed skin.

Sheer Overlays

Obviously one of the season’s essentials is layering, so here comes the fresh take. The biggest cities in the fashion scene, such as New York and London, have proven that layering sheer is an innovative way to play with transparency. So let your imagination run wild with each piece of sheer that slowly build up a unique outfit like a petal. The holiday season is the perfect time to elevate your creativity level, by mixing the lightweight fabric with different see-through garments or with basic silhouettes that will evoke your coolness. Other than that, it’s much easier to control the amount of skin you are willing to reveal. Being brave or conservative, it’s all in your hands.

Lingerie Out

If you have no issue revealing the beauty of the body, you will probably love this trend that’s coming on strong once again this season. Lingerie-inspired slip dresses and sheer nightshirts that leave nothing to the imagination were hitting the runways and were sending us a clear message: You have to let go of all your inhibitions and rely on your sexy undergarment to speak for you. Attending a fancy New Year’s party? Don’t hesitate to give a glam treatment to your chiffon shirt with a black bra or a slip for extra coverage. Our suggestion is to pick a loose-fit top that will inject more sophistication into the boudoir trend.

Don’t Mesh with the Lady

Mesh is another way to evoke your fashion forward-thinking attitude. When it comes to mesh, the peekaboo effect is more futuristic with its gothic-meets-punk vibe. Mesh details can appear as part of the design or as a panel, like in a boxy dress or at the button of the skirt. On the catwalk we spotted the sporty, see-through fabric in a variety of forms, but with the same purpose — showcasing just the right amount of skin for a striking bold look. You can have fun with the trend by incorporating vibrant hues or metallics into the outfit for a modern twist.

I See Through You

If you are fearful of overexposure, there is another way to show off your fashionista wild side. A transparent piece of outerwear will give you an innovative attitude that can match perfectly with any evening look. From a ladylike jacket to futuristic trenches or bomber jackets, you can find the style that fits your needs. The good news is that this piece can take you into spring. Choosing a translucent silk outerwear in a pastel shade can highlight your stylish outfit underneath and provide you with a nonchalant cool-yet-sweet vibe. This is the ultimate way to play with transparency while making a statement.

One Month, One Style: Nothing But Velvet

Photo: Bergdorf-Goodman Catalogue

For many, November signals the beginning of winter. As the days get shorter, heralding in the rainy and snowy season, we tend to look for rich textures and elegant uses of colour to glam up our gloomy days.

It is only natural then that velvet is the fabric of the month. Whether you are on your way to work or attending a festive event, velvet can elevate both your everyday style and your evening look. That’s why we are so excited to welcome back this major 90’s trend.

As you’ve probably noticed, velvet is everywhere. Balmain, Stella McCartney, Givenchy, Bottega Veneta, and many more designers have introduced their interpretation of the luxe fabric. We believe that now is the perfect time to embrace the trend in full force.

There are plenty of ways to wear this sensual material: the only rule is to wear it wisely and to avoid looking over the top. Incorporate it with unexpected styles and keep it sophisticated by avoiding velvet over-layering.

Velvet all the way

Head-to-toe velvet can be intimidating, but it can look incredibly cool if you know how to pull it off. Velvet suits look amazing in deep colours, so go for blazers and pants in burgundy, navy blue, bottle green, or black. Also, it’s better to choose a sleek suit in an architectural silhouette with clean lines. To execute the look perfectly, pair it with sheer top underneath and stiletto heels. This look evokes vintage elegance, so no wonder we crave the rich fabric more and more.

Killing it softly

Velvet dresses are a great option when the weather is slightly warmer. It’s also the classy choice for those of us who want to play it safe. Opt for a long slip dress, which is having a major moment, and wear it over a tight long-sleeved tee

For a fashion forward statement, choose cobalt over navy, ochre instead of green, and raspberry instead of red; these vibrant colours will take velvet to the next level. A high quality fabric will keep you safe from looking cheap.

On the edge

Those of us who grew up in the 90’s probably remember the velvet choker, the epitome of cool. If you haven’t had the chance then, now is the time to try it. We’ve already seen it among the It-girl squads like Kendall Jenner and Hailey Baldwin as part of their off-duty street style looks, but this trend is only getting stronger. Without a doubt, this simple velvet ribbon is a cool accent that will give your appearance a little edgy boost without interfering with your outfit.

Walking On Velvet

Take a break from your favourite old black boots as the other must have on our list are velvet booties. This is the year of the plushy fabric and we think that every girl should definitely own at least one trendy pair of this retro inspired accessory. From platform boots to stilettos, or even in a cowboy look, the rich fabric will elevate a casual look and will add a touch of glamour to your life.

Drama Queen

Vetements FW16 | Photo:

We know there is no substitute for a puffy warm parka, but our winter wardrobe isn’t complete without an overly dramatic velvet coat that will literally feed every fashionista’s soul. The velvety effect already present in the coats department is the best way to add some vintage avant-garde glam to your outfit. But don’t say we didn’t warn you: this look requires a lot of attitude and confidence. Otherwise, it’s not going to work.
