What’s In Store? End Of Season Transitional Sale Items

The excitement of end-of-season sales, especially for a shopaholic like me, may lead to unnecessary purchases. However, the temptation to buy dozens of trendy pieces, just because it’s related to two magic words, final markdowns or clearance sale, will ultimately make me end up with a closet full of unworn clothing, hanging there with the price tag still attached and a real guilty feeling.

Before going on a shopping spree, there are a few things you should be aware of. The most important thing is trying to focus on the items worth buying, like fashion pieces that you can still wear next season or basic garments that will never go out of style. One way to control an impulse buy is to ask yourself whether you would wear this piece more than once and if would you consider owning this item if it wasn’t on sale.

To help you approach sales in a smart way, here are five outfits I have tried, from the summer collection, that are worth the investment and will make the transition from summer to fall more smoothly:

Rock ‘n’ roll vibe: Zara

If there was ever a garment that can be worn all season long, while maintaining a cool vibe, I would definitely say it belongs to the rock ‘n’ roll tee and the leather jacket. They are both versatile pieces that look great with classy high waisted trousers, as well with a denim mini or skinny jeans. A leather jacket is a timeless piece for any wardrobe and it’s also an integral part of our fall wardrobe. To make a statement, you can wear it with red jeans, that infuse colour into your everyday wardrobe and can works for multiple occasions.

High quality pieces: Club Monaco

The best time to buy quality and value piece is during end-of-season sales, when the prices are affordable. It’s better to look for trans-seasonal pieces which you can wear now by itself or layer later, when fall arrives. Here is my pick from Club Monaco, a lightweight, 100% silk dress with a unique paisley pattern and a versatile day to night silhouette. You can pair it with flat sandals or sneakers for an effortlessly casual look, or wear it with high heels and a fancy clutch for an after hours look.

Back to basic: COS Store

Buying trendy pieces for half price at the end of a season is tempting, however investing on timeless minimalist pieces will be the smarter option. Try to focus on clothing that will last for a longer period of time and can take into the early days of fall. COS is the perfect place to find clean-lined classic pieces, that will always keep you looking sophisticated. I opted for relaxed fit trousers with pleated hems in green and paired it with a basic top.

Black and white with a little twist: Topshop

You can never go wrong with clean and modern black-and-white look, especially when it’s organized into patterns like checkered or stripes. Since black and white goes with everything, I paired the striped crop top and lace skirt with a furry pink sandals, which injected some fun vibes to the polished outfit. The fluffy material continues to be a big hit for fall 2017 and it also allows you to get in the mood for coziness, that resembles the fall days ahead.

Florals Forever: French Connection

Floral print, especially tropical ones seem to always be attached to spring/summer collections. By adding cool neutrals, the print can be transferred easily from summer to fall. Additionally, floral print is no longer exclusive to the blooming season, so you can carry your favourite prints into the cooler weather. These statement skinny jeans are definitely suitable for a chilly climate. Simply wear it with a cozy sweater or with a cropped puffer jacket and finish the look with an ankle boots.

Tried and Tested- Reiss Summer Offerings

As the weather heats up, it’s time to refresh your wardrobe with new easy breezy summer pieces. I decided to checkout the popular London-based fashion brand REISS, which landed in Canada two years ago. REISS is well known for it effortless and elegant style with unique and sophisticated designs, which set them apart on the street.

The perfect summer styles that’s also up to date and flattering at the same time is a challenging task, but luckily REISS offers a variety of collections with a recent trend guide from tropical palm prints to breezy dresses; and of course tailored pieces that never go out of style and can suit for any occasion.

Here are five options for the hot season that will also bring on the sun to your wardrobe:

Ladylike Silhouettes

Step into the sun with a pretty lace dress that embodies the fresh feel of early days of summer. This dress is the perfect choice when you can’t decide on what to wear for a wedding or a rooftop cocktail party. The dedicated lace details in a shade of thyme green makes it a one of a kind piece and evoke an elegant femininity and playfulness. It’s not just that the lady like shape flatter almost any body shapes, but also that the lace texture will photograph beautifully for your social media.

Shorts and bright

The warm weather season welcomes loose-fitting shorts and a rich colour palette. Therefore, these shorts are on my list of Summer must-haves. They are lightweight and super feminine, which goes to show that shorts can totally be sophisticated. The beach-inspired hues create the perfect summery outfit that also works as an evening look. On breezy nights, just add a soft jacket and a pair of heels for a classy take on the ultimate summer staple.

When in doubt wear culottes

Culottes are the ultimate solution for achieving a chic and sophisticated look while feeling comfy. The breezy and light fabric will allow you to wear them all summer long. This pair, which hang right below the knee in a blush hue, was balanced perfectly between a tailor silhouette and an effortless vibe, which makes them look smarter yet playful. To avoid looking too girly, I teamed it with a black top that is also work appropriate. To take this look from day to evening, just add a fancy bag and a pair of heels and a vivid colour like red.

Tropical getaway

Palm tree print is one of my favourite looks for the summer. The traditional tropical leaf usually comes in bright colours but Reiss’s maxi dress in soft pastels caught my eyes immediately. There is something about the light green, pink, and blue hues that can take your mind to sunny places even on a gloomy day. This maxi dress is a stylish and defiant take on the tropical trend and will look amazing with nude accessories.

Walking work of art

This watercolour dress is the simplest way to be chic yet effortless this summer. For me, fashion is a form of art — the rich colours along with the abstract prints look like a walking work of art. The feminine silhouette with the long sleeves will be suitable for chilly days. Keep in mind and let the pattern do the talking and pair it with simple accessories that won’t steal the focus from the dress.

Brighten Your Winter Wardrobe

Since we had some warmer days lately, the first snow caught us unprepared. It is time to bring out those winter clothes that will take you through the long and harsh winter season. Whether you like it or not, one thing is for sure — you can still be stylish even with the winter layers. We tend to associate winter with frumpy coats, heavy-duty rubber sole boots, and chunky accessories in melancholy dark hues. While this is true, there are still some layering tricks and trendy pieces that will help you put together a stylish winter look, while staying warm and cozy.

First Impression

The winter coat is a wardrobe saviour, so it pays to invest in a quality and fashionable one. The good news is that this season we are flooded with so many choices that you might even wish for snow so you can wear yours. From parkas and puffers to tailored wool coats, there is something out there to suit your style. Own at least one bold coat. It’s all about the first impression and making a statement. The waxed ski jacket in green and blue from Balenciaga is a great pick. It is guaranteed to add a boost of colour to your wardrobe, without compromising your coziness. You can also choose the flashy option such as the Vivenne Westwood’s metallic puffer jackets or make a dramatic impact with an oversized fur coat like Burberry Prorsum.

Layers, layers, layers

Take inspiration from New Yorker fashionistas, who know how to master the cool-girl even in the frigid cold. Start by picking out the base layer. Wool is on top of our the list. This fabric will not only keep you warm but, as a breathable insulator, it will also allow you to sweat without getting your other clothes wet. For another layering example, wear a turtleneck with a silk camisole on top or a cashmere cardigan with a wool coat. A blanket scarf or poncho with unique prints can also jazz up your look, so don’t be afraid to load on the layers and play up with different textures.

It’s all in the (BOLD) details

As much as we love wearing blacks and greys during the cold season, it can be boring after a while. Incorporating bold accessories into your winter ensemble will elevate a simple look and will even bring new life to the most redundant winter clothes. Experiment with bright toned and fun statement pieces like scarves that can be worn in various ways and will push you to think outside the box. You can fold your scarf in a triangle knot or even wear it as a belt on top of a jacket. Another option is to add a dash of luxe to your appearance with fur details, such as fur collars or fur mittens. Pom-pom beanies and printed socks (oh, the power of socks to change an outfit!) will also spice up your outfit in a cheerful way.

These Boots Are Made For Snow

No need to neglect your favourite skirt or dress during winter, you just need to invest in a thigh-high classy boots. Pair them with a midi skirt that falls below the top of the boot, or with a shorter skirt to reveal a flash of bare skin. Practical footwear doesn’t necessarily have to be unappealing. In frigid weather when you are forced to wear snow boots, you can opt for unique details such as colour blocking, neon accents, or colourful texture that can bring together a  cool outfit. Or try wearing track sole boots and loafers for an androgynous style. To make a fashion forward statement, match these chunky platforms with super feminine elements like a romantic lace dress.

As Toronto weather is unpredictable, it is no doubt that a quality coat is necessary staple in any wardrobe. There is nothing like a new coat to cheer you up when the temperatures are dropTo make your life easier, I went to Uniqlo to checkout the collection and gather some guidelines to help you manage the winter outerwear.

The Chic Parka

Parkas are the ultimate winter outerwear, however they can be quite a tricky piece to style due to the chunky silhouette. While browsing the store, I found a chic way bundle up with a long parka. This down coat is a great choice since it’s soft and light weight. The parka made without down packs to eliminate the unwieldy bulk down coats, so you can actually pair it with an heavy knit dress but still look polished and pull together.

Tailored & Feminine

Blurring the line between feminine and masculine is a great way to spice up your winter look. Without a doubt, this pinstripe wool coat is a great candidate that adds that touch of sophistication to your look while keeping you warm. I love how the masculine details get a feminine touch thanks to the shapely waistline, creating an attractive, feminine outline. I paired it with another androgynous element, which defined the grunge years – the flannel shirt dress. Unlike other flannels, this dress is super feminine owning to the feminine silhouette and the belt that define the waistline.

Take a Puff

This season, puffer jackets are probably the coolest item you can own in your closet. The runways were packed with endless version of this oversized coat and made us rethink the controversial piece, which we tend to have a love-hate relationship with. Since it can add unwanted bulkiness to your frame, I decided to give it a try. I opted for a crop puffer with a wool blend in black, a slender waistline and shapely silhouette. I mixed it up with a fitted top and pleated skirt

Winter Bright

This coat is made from a thin, warm ultra-light down material which makes it light and compact, so you can travel with it everywhere and carry it on a compact travel bag. I deiced to go out from my comfort zone, so I picked a bright red coat, which is a fresh and diversify alternative to the dark shades that resemble the winter. The magenta sporty coat caught my attention due the a glossy sheen and the super light metrical. Basically, this is all you need in order to beat the winter blues in style.

We all agree, we must have a coat reachable when the temperature dips below freezing. A parka that wraps your body up gently is great choice for an elegant look that will keep your entire body warm and dry even on the worst blizzard.  The good news is that the colour and shape go with everything, so you will be well prepared once the frigid temperatures  hit the city.

1. Dress over pants

The 90s inspired trend blended perfectly as a “swinter” piece. This is the best time to combine your favourite summer dress and a pair of classic pants. It’s also a cool way to update your look by giving it a “new life.” For a street style edge, you can choose a longer hem that sits above the knee or even longer, for an extra fashion forward look. Choose pants that don’t have too many belt loops or pockets, or simply pair it with legging-like pants, for a smoother overall look. Another recommendation is to pick a shift or tailored-silhouette dress . Keep in mind that full bottom dress with a lot of draping details may be unflattering.

 2. Texture Mix-Up

The fall-winter months are a perfect time to experiment with textures. Consider a velvet jacket, which is one of the fall’s dominant trends. The rich texture cover-up can look great with contrasting textures like pleated chiffon or silk. Another option is to wear an oversized chunky sweater layered over a lightweight flowy skirt that peeks out from underneath.
