Q Esthetics Laser Clinic: The Future of Skincare

TEXT: Alexander Sauve

Located in one of the most prestigious and stylish areas of Toronto, Q Esthetics Laser Clinic in Yorkville delivers premium skincare in a contemporary and modern atmosphere. Offering a variety of skin and laser treatments, Q Esthetics is a leader in its field due to its innovative treatments and procedures executed by its highly qualified team of skincare professionals.

My treatment began with a skin analysis to detect any possible signs of photodamage beneath the skin’s surface. Being of a certain age, I wasn’t overly surprised to find that my skin indeed had a few age spots and wrinkles beginning to form just underneath the surface. Word to the wise — never tan and stay out of the sun.

After the skin analysis my skin was cleansed and prepped for the next stage of the treatment — a SilkPeel. A SilkPeel Dermalinfusion is a very light, non-invasive procedure that provides gentle exfoliation, while adding skin specific ingredients back into the skin for a healthier complexion.

There are three formulas of SilkPeels available and each is tailor-made to treat your skin’s individual needs in a variety of ways. For acne prone skin, there is the Clarifying SilkPeel, which promotes faster cell turnover through gentle exfoliation, while unclogging dirt and debris from the pores, revealing a clearer, more manageable complexion.

The hydrating SilkPeel deeply nourishes the skin with Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic Acid is often used to treat the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while improving overall tone and texture to the complexion. This peel is often used to treat skin that is dry and in need of deep hydration and moisture.

Due to my skin’s penchant for being overly dry during the winter months (most often resembling the Sahara Desert), my SilkPeel was infused with a Vitamin C Solution. Vitamin C helps to brighten and tone tired looking skin while working as a secondary defense against further sun damage. Environmental stress, or just stress in general, along with pollutants and regular facial aging can wreck havoc on the complexion.

A derivative of Vitamin E is added to the QMAX Facial to help protect the complexion from any further photodamage, while improving the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and facial scarring. Aloe is used to further hydrate the skin, while Allantoin and Dipotassium soothes and calms the skin.

The last part of treatment was out of this world. My face was pampered with a laser procedure for 30 minutes. Various light pulses worked deeply to penetrate beneath my skin’s surface to tackle and/or destroy any complexion imperfections that may be en route to the skin’s surface. After the laser treatment, my skin was treated to various creams and serums to hydrate my skin.

Without hesitation, I would argue that this is one of the best facials currently available on the market. After just one treatment, the results were immediate. My complexion is clearer, brighter, and more even in tone. Fine lines, wrinkles, and discoloration have been virtually erased and smoothed away, while my overall facial volume has been restored.

By now, you’re most likely wondering how much this anti-aging wonder will set you back. A facial of this caliber does not usually come inexpensive and will set you back $325 before taxes. But it’s well worth it. If you’re looking to knock off a couple of years. At Q Esthetics it’s not just about how you look, but how you feel.

Conveniently located in three locations: 38 Bellair Street (Yorkville) in Toronto, 802 Sutherland Rd in Mississauga and 800 Steeles Ave West in Thornhill. Further information can be found online at www.qesthetics.com

If you’re feeling stressed out, anxious, or a bit on edge from the tasks of everyday life, that is completely normal and you are definitely not alone. Just take a deep breathe and make some time to treat yourself. Everyone deserves a little pampering every once in a while. It’s a nice way to sit back, relax, and just ease your mind. The luxury of pampering can include a soothing massage, cleansing facials, or even fancying up your nails with a manicure and pedicure.

There are plenty of ways to distress, and why not doing so at the one and only Shangri-La Hotel located right in our city of Toronto? The luxurious five star hotel includes the Miraj Hammam Spa by Caudalie Paris, which is available to absolutely anyone on an appointment basis. The moment you walk in, you’ll feel the calming atmosphere that this elaborate spa has, and you will already feel your stress levels lowering, even before you begin whichever treatment you are booked for.

The spa offers a variety of treatments that one can partake in such as: Hammam, massages, facials, body care, hands and feet, waxing and voyages and retreats. I had the amazing opportunity to receive one of the facial treatments called the Resveratrol Lift Treatment (Firming). This one hour facial is meant to bring life back into the skin, especially if it is lacking vitality and firmness. You see an immediate difference in the overall appearance of your skin, through the texture, complexion, and the lift that the facial offers. The treatment is done using Caudalie’s Resveratrol Lift Firming Products, which are completely natural. All Caudalie products have no parabens, phenoxyethanol, phthalates, mineral oils, sodium laureth sulfate or animal ingredients.

Before starting my treatment I spoke with my aesthetician, and she also gave me the chance to personalize my facial by tackling any problem areas I may have—for myself, that would be dark spots . Then she took a look at my skin and worked her magic to give my face a more firm and re-scultped transformation. The steps followed throughout the facial were to exfoliate, cleanse, tone, and two extra products were used for an expert treatment.

Here are a list of the products used during my Resveratrol Lift Treatment.

Where to treat yo’ self in Toronto

Ladies and gents, now is the time to take “treat yo’ self” seriously. We’re 21 days into the New Year, which means we’ve entered that weird limbo between that “new year, new me” resolution phase and the “oh my God, I need to start thinking about how I’m going to squeeze into that swimsuit” phase. Worry not: Toronto is home to a ton of places that specialize in detoxifying and treating the body, from our brows to our beards, from our nails to our vaginas. Read on to find out where and how you can show your body the love it deserves (and trust me, it’ll love you back — just in time for beach season).

FACE: The Ayurveda Facial at Laya Spa & Yoga

It’s a popular opinion that this cosy little spa is Toronto’s facial authority, and for good reason: their famous Ayurveda Facial is, as far as I’m aware, a magical gift from the Gods of Perfect Skin. Each all-natural mask is concocted from scratch to suit each individual’s unique skin, and dosha specific oils are used to massage the body and detoxify the skin using manual lymphatic drainage.

“Laya’s Ayurveda Facial has grown in popularity as it allows for a more in-depth focus into not only the skin but the client’s ayurvedic dosha, providing a holistic approach to skin therapy,” says Alessandra, owner of Laya. “Each client leaves feeling nourished, grounded and loved.”

So basically, it’s a facial that’s as good for the face as it is for the soul.

BROWS: Brow Design at The Brow House

As our Queen Lena Dunham once stated, “Never trust someone with bad eyebrows.” That being said, if you want to be trusted ever again, get thee to The Brow House in Yorkville. Their otherworldly brow-shaping abilities will transform your eyebrows and, in turn, your face. If your brows are the opposite of “on fleek,” they’ll reno those bad boys to perfection. And if you need a simple cleanup, they’re wonderful at that, too. Their eyebrow tinting service is also a godsend for those of us who hate/are incapable of filling them in by hand.

Just know one thing: whatever you get done here, you’ll leave your appointment with Pinterest-worthy brows.

LADY PARTS: The Vagacial at Fuzz Wax Bar

Anyone who has ever experienced a vagina in any way knows that lady parts have a pretty rough life. The Vagacial is like sending your muff to the spa: a Fuzzologist (yes, they call themselves that) performs a five-step treatment to “care for, correct and calm” your skin — a process that includes a gentle cleansing, exfoliation, ingrown hair extraction, the clarifying “V-Mask,” and moisturizing. Ahhhh. (FYI this is best done two weeks after your wax.) (Also FYI: ask for Parul, as she is the Messiah of the Brazilian wax and knows her shit.)

BEARD: The Majestic Facial Hair treatment at Saul’s Beauty Shop

I don’t even have a beard and I want this done to me: on top of getting a facial, your beard gets to enjoy a full cleanse, a customized conditioning mask, a finishing oil and a taming comb-out, AND they’ll get rid of ingrown hairs, AND give you a shoulder massage. So majestic.

NAILS: The Ultimate Manicure at Her Majesty’s Pleasure

By now the entire city — the entire world, perhaps — is aware of the fact that Her Majesty’s Pleasure is actually Heaven on Earth. Their Ultimate Manicure covers all the bases: filing, complete cuticle care, exfoliation, a deep relaxing hand and arm massage, a 10-minute scalp and shoulder massage, and, finally, polishing. And the fact that you can have all of this while sipping a freshly made coffee or cocktail from their bar basically makes it like a euphoric out-of-body experience.

HAIR: Hair mask at Elmwood Spa

After your hair expert identifies what level of repair your hair needs, they’ll restore your strands with high-performance, argan-rich oil formulas that’ll deeply hydrate and condition. The result: incredibly improved hair texture, elasticity and manageability (yes please, yes please and yes please).
